Facebook buys Moves – fitness app
Facebook has acquired the Moves mobile app, a popular fitness journal in America. Number of app downloads reaches 4 million. It’s another app in Facebook’s hands, alongside Instagram and Whatsapp.
In total, these apps are worth $20 billion.
Facebook’s social mission
The amount of the deal was not made public. Moves will continue to operate as an independent app. Facebook argues the purchase by claiming that it “wants to help people take small steps toward healthier habits and a healthier lifestyle.”.
Fitness app Moves was developed in Finland in 2012. To date, it has been downloaded 4 million times. Moves is used to rearrange the user’s daily activity in a series of graphs. Gathers data from the phone, primarily based on the accelerometer.
Also serves to estimate the number of calories burned, indicating the most active moments of the day.
Moves part of the ecosystem
As you can see, Facebook is focusing on expanding its mobile portfolio. This is a profitable practice, especially since a few days ago the number of mobile Facebook users exceeded 1 billion. The Facebook collection (in addition to the apps directly signed „Facebook”) already includes 2 apps – Instagram and, as of a few weeks ago WhatsApp.
According to Zuckerberg, mobile apps are “part of an entire ecosystem that includes information that people want to share with others.”.
